Salamander

The feast of Štiavnica´s miners gradually became also the feast of Slovak miners. The Salamander procession in a two hour lasting brief presents to visitors the entire history of Banská Štiavnica. There are presented the most significant events from the town history in the procession, starting with the legend about discovery of gold and silver as far as the present and marching the most importatnt uniformed representatives of mining. A herdsman, discoverer of gold and silver ore, is always at the head of the Salamander procession, which reminds to viewers pictures of the town history. Numerous delegations of miners from abroad are represented in the Salamander procession every year, every second September Friday evening.
